PRKC Home PRKC Home

PRKC works with participating organizations and communities on initiatives. Each initiative has an area of interest, concern or importance and the initiative leads work with interested members of the community to develop and leverage public and private institutions as appropriate.

PRKC Initiative Process

Each initiative has its own  Lead that is responsible for grassroots networking, shaping the initiative and getting the word out to participants of the community. PRKC has two types of initiatives:

  • Visions which focus on community interests in the next 10-25 years
  • Committee and Community Initiatives which are short term projects

Vision Initiatives

Vision documents are developed by the community or parent organization most directly affected and circulated widely in draft form.  When the Lead has broad community input and consensus from the parent organization, PRKC will either work with the UAC or help present to the King County Council and request the Vision be ratified by Council Motion. After a Vision is ratified by the Council, the Lead will, with community input, prepare an Implementation Recommendations document for County consideration.

Grand Ridge Matching Funds Campaign to raise $150,000 privately PRKC has requested that the County evaluate several parcels for acquisition or other protection avenues. Two of these parcels include 80 acres bordering Grand Ridge Park and the Mitchell Hill Forest, that is threatened with clear cutting In order for these properties to be made available for Conservation Futures Funding, it is necessary to secure matching funds. Additionally, when communities put there money where their mouth is when it comes to protecting land, the County' response to private efforts is always favorable. Pending County commitment, Cascade Land Conservancy has agreed to set up and manage a fund raising for a very nominal administrative fee on PRKC behalf. PRKC - Land Committee Lauren Clark
